Balance and Fall Prevention

We offer personalized balance and fall prevention programs is based on your individual needs. Four different body system must work in conjunction to allow us to maintain balance: our vision, vestibular, muscular and proprioceptive systems. Deficits in any of these areas can cause balance problems and may lead to falls. An evaluation will be performed by your therapist to assess all four of these systems to help determine why your balance may be impaired. Following the evaluation, a plan of care will be established to guide your treatment. This plan of care may include exercises to improve strength, endurance, and mobility, visual tracking, and inner ear retraining when necessary. 

What Causes Balance Problems?

  • Muscle weakness

  • Joint stiffness

  • Inner ear problems / Vestibular dysfunction

  • Certain medications

  • Lack of activity / sedentary lifestyle

  • Aging

  • Medical conditions such as stroke, Parkinson's Disease, Diabetes, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.
