Prehabilitation

Prehabilitation, or prehab, is a combination of strength, gait, balance, and/or resistance training aimed at maintaining or improving functional mobility prior to surgery in order to improve rate of recovery after surgery.

If you are suffering from a painful joint and are scheduled for surgery, you have probably also noticed surrounding muscle atrophy (decrease of muscle size and strength), soft tissue tightness and decreased range of motion of the irritated joint. The only issue surgery addresses is the joint itself. This surrounded tissue may still be afflicted with muscle weakness, range of motion deficits, balance and gait abnormalities. Prehab is designed to give you a jump start on these issues before surgery which will greatly reduce the stress of joint replacement surgery as well as improve your ability to more quickly return to doing the things you love.

Post Operative Rehabilitation

Post-operative rehabilitation is performed following most orthopedic operations, such as hip, knee, shoulder, wrist, hand, neck, ankle and spine to aid in quick recovery. Depending on the surgery performed, rehabilitation can start as early as a few hours after surgery. Post-operative rehabilitation facilitates improvement in your motion, strength and the ability to return to your daily work and recreational activities. To begin, you will undergo an initial evaluation during which your therapist will perform a functional assessment, establish goals for rehabilitation and a discuss a plan of care to optimize your recovery process and get you back to your normal routine as quickly as possible.
